Urverg Ratsimamanga is professor of biochemistry at the University of Antananarivo and president of IMRA (Malagasy Institute of Applied Research). After obtaining her PhD and agrégation en médecine in Paris, she became director of research at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris where she worked in various capacities (endocrinology and medicinal plants). With professor Albert Rakoto Ratsimamanga, she created IMRA, an institute in Madagascar dedicated to natural products. Together, they marketed internationally 5 patented drugs and perfected about 40 others from traditional medicine. Her honours include several awards in Madagascar for a vegetal antidiabetic drug and a leprosy treatment, Grand Croix de l'Ordre National Malgache, and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (France). She is a member of the Malagasy Academy and the African Academy of Sciences.
