Allotey was educated at Imperial College, UK (MA, 1960) and Princeton Univ., USA (PhD, 1966). He is professor at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Kumasi, Ghana. His previous positions include: Director, Computer Science Ctr., UST; president, Mathematics Assoc, of Ghana; chairman, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Ghana; and chairman, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. His awards include: Prince Philip Gold Medal, Deserving Scientist Award, Ghana; First World Bank-IMF Africa Club Award; Mathematical Assoc. of Ghana Award; African Mathematics Union Award; honorary DSc from six universities. Allotey is the President of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences; African Academy of Sciences; British Computer Society; Ghana Inst. of Engineers; Ghana Inst. of Physics; and Hon. Fellow Inst. of Physics, UK. He received the Order of the Volta (Companion), Ghana.
