Chidume is professor, Vice President (Academic); Director, Mathematics Institute and Head, Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics of the African University of Science and Technology in Abuja, Nigeria. He was Acting President, senior vice president/provost at the same university. He obtained his PhD in mathematics in 1984 at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He was a research scientist at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in Trieste, Italy, from 1992–2009. He has made important contributions in non-linear operator theory through providing incisive answers/solutions to some important long-standing open problems. His membership includes the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Nigerian Mathematical Society (secretary, 1986-1992).
