Autrey, BSc (London), MSc, PhD, DSc (Exeter), retired as director of the Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute in 2007 after 40 years of service and is the general secretary of the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists. He is a world authority on sugar cane research and development. He is Chancellor of the U. of Mauritius, vice-pres. of the Mauritius Acad. of Science and Technology. He has lectured in sugar countries worldwide, and has published more than 150 scientific papers. He has served on various natl. and intl. bodies, which he has chaired. Currently he is the Chair of ACP Scientific Committee on Sugar. He has carried out consultancies in more than 25 countries. He is a Fellow of the Society for Biology, London and a Chartered Biologist. He is Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (CSK) and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
