The World Academy of Sciences Regional Office for sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-ROSSA) seeks to honour an outstanding scientist who has played key roles in the establishment of lively scientific institutions and also who has significantly expanded the activities of established institution(s) in the developing world. The prize is awarded in fulfilment of the TWAS objective of recognising, supporting and promoting scientific capacity and excellence in the developing world. The award comprises an award certificate with a citation on the winner’s scientific achievement, as well as a cash prize of 3000 USD. The winner will be announced at the annual TWAS General Assembly and Conference which will be held from 12–17 November 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda. The prize will be awarded formally by TWAS-ROSSA at a suitable event thereafter.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa in partnership with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), which is based in Italy and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of South Africa are pleased to announce the call for fellowship applications for the NRF-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2017. These fellowships are open to permanent residents from eligible developing countries other than South Africa. The application deadline is Tuesday, 07 June 2016.  Applicants must apply on the NRF Online system at: https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za.   

Every year, TWAS-ROSSA selects up to five young scientists to be Young Affiliates for a period of five years. During their tenure, Affiliates are invited to participate in TWAS general meetings and conferences. They are also expected to provide feedback to TWAS on how the Academy can respond to the needs of young scientists in developing countries. The closing date for application is 15 May 2016

The TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme provides postdoctoral researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, with the opportunity to make a ‘Cooperation Visit’ to an institute in Germany of no more than 3 months. Please find attached the relevant application form.
