TWAS-ROSSA Regional Prize

Each year, the regional office administers the nomination and selection processes for the TWAS Regional Prize. There are preset themes that change annually for the prize.  After the applications have been received the TWAS Fellows in sub-Saharan Africa are given the opportunity to evaluate and pre-select the top ranked candidates.  The top ranked candidates are then taken for further scrutiny by the Selection Committee into which TWAS Fellows volunteer themselves.

This is where the final selection of the winner of the prize comes from. The selection committee’s consensus on the recommended winner finally goes for endorsement by the Executive Director of TWAS. The winner’s name together with others from other regional offices is announced formally at the annual TWAS General Meeting and Conference. The official awarding of the prize is then done at any other scientific meeting or event in Africa. The Regional Prize consists of a certificate and prize money.
