Seydi was educated at the Universities of Marseille, Paris and Paris-Orsay. He obtained his Maîtrise de Mathématiques, 1968; Doctorat du Troisième Cycle, 1969; Agrégation de Mathématiques, 1970; and Doctorat d'Etat es-Sciences Mathématiques, 1973. He is disting. prof., Cheikh Anta Diop Univ. (UCAD), Dakar, Senegal. He was previously UCAD's chairman, Dept. of Mathematics; director, Inst. on the Teaching of Mathematics, Physics and Tech.; and dean, Faculty of Science and Technology. He was also vis. prof., Howard Univ., USA; lecturer, Univ. of Paris; attaché de recherche, CNRS; vice pres., African Mathematical Union (AMU); and pres., Mathematical Soc. of Senegal, Scientific Assoc. of Senegal and ANTSI. He is a fellow of AAS and Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti, Messina, Italy; and founding fellow, Academie des Sciences et Techniques du Senegal. He was awarded the Gold Medal of Mathematics, AMU, 1999.
